Independent bottling companies play a crucial role in the Scottish whisky industry.

Consumers are increasingly seeking specialised and rare whisky varieties to deepen their knowledge of the whisky world. This is where independent bottling companies come into the picture. These companies can offer a wide range of whisky by acquiring various casks, sometimes from distilleries that are dormant or defunct, thus preventing fine Scotch whisky from disappearing. The casks mature under the bottler’s supervision and are then bottled under their own brand.

Some independent bottlers specialise in producing limited editions of rare, premium single malt whiskies from carefully selected casks, either via brokers or directly from distilleries. These whiskies are attractive to true whisky connoisseurs who want to taste a rare vintage or a variant from a favourite distillery that has been matured in a different type of cask or bottled at a different age than standard production.

On 7 March 2008, Auld Rare Whisky Sweden became Sweden’s first licensed independent bottler, of which they are very proud.

The increased demand for more specialised whisky varieties has given independent bottling companies the opportunity to expand their range and offer “Cask Strength Whisky”. While patented whisky is normally bottled at 40% ABV, “cask strength” means no water has been added before bottling, resulting in an alcohol content that can exceed 50%. Other attractive features may include “non-chill filtered” or “no colouring added”.

It is clear that independent bottling companies provide an important service for seasoned whisky enthusiasts around the world.

ARW (Auld Rare Whisky), which has been an independent bottler in Sweden since 2008, offers small releases of exclusive whisky carefully selected from, among others, older and closed Scottish distilleries. The whisky is bottled in designer apothecary bottles, combining Scottish tradition with stylish packaging. Every year, they release the annual edition of Lutendrank, a mulled wine-based drink flavoured with Swedish lingonberries.

From Auld Rare, we also find an exquisite selection of rum and brandy. ARW, known for its dedication to quality and craftsmanship, extends its expertise beyond whisky to include these fine spirits. Each rum and brandy is carefully chosen to meet the high standards that Auld Rare Whisky is renowned for.
